2 No Jackets & Piles
In December 1987, Hydrocarbon Great Britain (HGB) a subsidiary of British Gas, awarded a single turnkey contract to a joint venture company called Morecambe Bay Contractors, formed by McDermott and Press Offshore. The contract scope included the fabrication, transportation, installation, hook-up and commissioning of two platforms, DP6 & DP8, for the South Morecambe Field, located in UK block 110/2a, 25 miles west of Blackpool.
McDermott Ardersier fabricated the two jacket structures and associated piling, with the McDermott Offshore Group carrying out the transportation, installation and completion of the sub-sea pipeline tie-ins. Press Offshore fabricated the integrated decks and carried out the offshore hook-up and commissioning.
The DP6 & DP8 Jackets weighing 2,200 and 2,320 tonnes respectively were the third and fourth 4 leg Wellhead Jackets to be built for the South Morecambe Field at Ardersier, being similar in design to the earlier DP3 & DP1 Jackets completed in 1983 and 1984. The combined weight of piling for the three Jackets totalled 3,609 tonnes
The DP6 & DP8 Jackets were loaded out by trailer onto McDermotts Intermac 627 barge in March 1989 and sailed in April the same year. The integrated decks also sailed for the field in April 1989. Following installation by the McDermott Derrick Barge DB102 and subsequent Hook up activities, drilling commenced on the 7th June 1989.
As of 2025, gas production continued in the field.
