Wellhead Deck and Bridge
For a brief history on the Rough Gas Field refer to information contained in project gallery section for 1983 British Gas Rough Field – 2 No Jackets and Piles.
Prior to the completion of a contract in July 1983 to build two Jackets and Piles for the Rough development, British Gas awarded the Ardersier Yard a further contract in June 1983 to build the Rough CD Wellhead Deck and Pipe-bridge. This work scope which had a combined weight of 1,810 Tonnes was loaded out in June 1984 and installed in July. Production start-up on the CD Platform commenced in early 1985, thus completing this phase of the Rough B gas storage complex development.
The Rough gas storage site was closed in 2017 on the grounds that it was uneconomical and had reached the end of its design life. However, the field was re-opened for gas storage in October 2022, following a period of crisis in the UK’s gas supply network and upgrades have since been made to increase capacity. There are also plans to redevelop Rough into a hydrogen storage facility.
