More About This Facility

The Plate Cutting Shop was housed within a 20 m wide by 100 m long building. The activity within this shop concentrated on the cutting and profiling of the many varied shapes and sizes of steel components which formed the structure of an offshore platform. This work was performed utilising Oxyfuel cutting machines supported upon three rail mounted cutting portals. The cutting machine operation was automatically controlled via a computer system which used electronic data from fabrication drawings to programme the cutting operation. Transfer of material from the Stockyard into the Plate Cutting Shop was performed using a conveyor system which fed plate into the shop via a blast chamber removing mill scale and debris from the plate prior to cutting.
