Situated adjacent to the Pipeshop, the Painthall also occupied a section of a building which originally housed Pipemill 2 before the mid-1980’s. The purpose of the facility was to apply surface coatings to offshore platform structural and pipework components according to whatever coating system was specified for a project. Surface preparation prior to application of coatings was performed by either the use of a conveyor fed Blast Machine for preparing structural/pipework sections or within the Blast Hall where larger fabricated assemblies could be prepared by manual means.
Following surface preparation, components would be transferred into the coatings area where the various priming, protective and sealing coats would be applied and cured to the required composition and dry film thickness. The coating activities were carried out within a controlled environment where temperature and humidity parameters were maintained by means of a dedicated heating and ventilating system.
