Riser Support Structures
A contract for the fabrication of two sub-sea Riser Support Structures for the Troll C field was awarded by Norsk Hydro in April 1998.
The 80 metre tall, 800 Tonne Jacket structures to be fabricated were of a conventional design, however assembly of the radiused tray arrangement which supported the risers at the top of the Jacket involved learning to work with new materials. Each tray arrangement which was made of fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) supported 21 risers and their function was to cradle the flexible risers that connect the subsea wellheads to the Troll C floating production unit above.
A year after contract award, the structures were completed and after sail away at the end of April 1999 the Riser Supports were installed during May 1999.
Troll C Platform is a semi-submersible steel accommodation and production platform, sitting in 340 metres of water, located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, approximately 65 kilometres west of Kollsnes, a town near Bergen on Norway’s west coast.
