Background
McDermott Scotland Heritage Association (MSHA) was formed as an Unincorporated Association in 2023 by former employees of McDermott Scotland Ltd.
The purpose and aims of MSHA were to establish a means of commemorating the existence of McDermott Scotland Ltd, its Ardersier Yard, the employees and their achievements. This has been done by way of creating a Heritage Site which features a number of information boards and a commemorative monument. In addition, this Website has been developed to share a photographic record and general information relating to the Yard’s history.
Heritage Site
The new site owners, Haventus Ltd, have provided the location for the Heritage Site at the entrance to the redeveloped Port of Ardersier. Haventus has also financed its construction. Other contributors include McDermott International and the former directors of Tulloch Group.
The feature site includes a dedicated area at the entrance to the Port, which features car parking, seating, and information boards mounted on a natural stone wall topped with a Caithness slab.
A stone cairn with a memorial plaque has been erected next to the feature commemorating the eight employees who lost their lives while working in the Yard.
The Heritage Site can be found on the B9092 Nairn to Ardersier Road at the roundabout junction leading to the Haventus Ltd Site.

Website
This Website has been created with the cooperation of the Highland Archive Centre in Inverness who provided access to historical documents and a library of photographs relating to the Ardersier Yard. Other former employees also provided sources of information which is shared on the site.
The information on the website is spread over several pages of subject matter which describe particular features of the Yard from its creation in 1973 to its closure in 2000.
Site Pages
- Yard History – origins of the yard, how it operated and impact on area
- Facilities – photographs and description of buildings and equipment
- What was Built – description of the types of structures fabricated
- Projects Gallery – photographic library and description of projects
- Field Map – map of offshore oil and gas installations with Yard content
- Yard Output – production history over time
It is hoped that this website is shared by former employees, their families, friends and others who may find it interesting.
