More About This Project

Utilities / Power Gen Modules

North Alwyn is an oil and gas field with significant reserves in the UK sector of the northern North Sea. The field is located approximately 160 km east of the Shetland Islands and 500 km north east of Aberdeen, in 129m of water.

The development of the field was based upon installation of two bridge linked fixed steel Jacket platforms designated NAA (Utilities, Drilling and Quarters) and NAB (Processing)

In June 1984 Total awarded the Ardersier Yard a contract to build two Cellar Deck Module sections with a combined weight of 4,520 Tonnes and a Power Generation Module weighing 2,235 Tonnes for the NAA Accommodation and Drilling platform.

Following completion of fabrication in March 1986 the Cellar Deck sections were loaded out using two Lampson Transi-Lift cranes with assistance from the Manitowoc 7000. The Power Generation Module was loaded out by means of trailers. Following sail-away from the Yard and subsequent offshore installation of the NAA platform, drilling commenced in Autumn 1986. Production from the North Alwyn B (NAB) platform commenced Autumn 1987.

Oil export is to the Cormorant Alpha platform then onwards via the Brent pipeline system to Sullom Voe. Gas export is via the FUKA pipeline system to the St Fergus Gas Terminal. The Alwyn North facility is currently planned to continue in production until at least 2028
