3 No Jackets and Piles
Gas deposits were discovered in the Southern North Sea fields Esmond (1982), Forbes (1970) and Gordon (1983) in an area 170km east of Teesside. Whilst individually the fields were deemed uneconomic to develop, a viable development solution was arrived at by linking all three fields, using a central processing platform at Esmond and unmanned satellite platforms at Forbes and Gordon.
In December 1983 the Yard was awarded a contract from Hamilton Brothers (Oil and Gas Ltd) for the fabrication of three Jackets and associated piles for the development. The Jackets were (1) the eight leg Esmond Central Processing (CP) Jacket at 1,912 Tonnes, (2) the four leg Forbes (AW) Wellhead Jacket at 964 Tonnes and (3) the four leg Gordon (BW) Wellhead Jacket at 724 Tonnes. The combined weight of the piles for the three Jackets totalled 4,560 tonnes.
The three Jackets sailed from the Yard in the period Sept – October 1984 and following the offshore installation programme the start-up of the offshore facilities commenced in June 1985. Dismantling and removal of the Esmond, Forbes and Gordon offshore platforms took place in the mid 1990’s.
