Warehouse storage went from horizontal to more of a vertical arrangement with the building of a new Warehouse in the mid 1980’s. The new Warehouse comprised of three high bays, two high density bays with capacity for over 3,000 pallets, and a single heated / insulated bay with a capacity for 1,300 bins. Each of the bays was served by dedicated stacker cranes which moved items in and out of storage according to requirements. The warehouse handling system, being automated and electronically controlled in a similar fashion to a factory environment, was relatively unique within a platform fabrication Yard setting at the time. The high-density storage bay set up was complimented with an open storage area to accommodate large heavy components.
