More About This Facility

The Pipe Shop was housed within a 21 m x 115 m + 21 m x 18 m (L-shaped) building which had originally been built and operated as Pipemill No 2 before the relocation of this activity to the new Pipemill in the mid 1980’s.

The activity within the Pipe Shop was concentrated upon the fabrication of pipework components for installation into Topsides, Jackets, and Subsea facilities being built within the Yard. The assembled pipework components or spools as they were known, would generally consist of a combination of pipe lengths and fittings for the various process and utility systems within an offshore platform. The assembly of such spools was carried out in the Pipe Shop on two discreet lines dedicated to either carbon (ferrous) pipework or exotic (non-ferrous) pipework. Each line was equipped with specific handling equipment, cutting gear, manipulators, rollers and welding equipment to suit the type of material being assembled.
